KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team had a perfect start to their exhibition season, picking up a pair of wins over the UBC Okangan Heat to start their 2023-24 pre-season campaign.
The ‘Pack and Heat split their squads on the day, playing two games in Vernon with one taking place at Vernon Secondary and the other at Kalamalka Secondary.
At Kalamalka the ‘Pack earned a 3-1 victory.
Rookie Deakon Anderson had eight kills and ten blocks to go along with one ace as the rookie out of Prince George had a stellar outing in his first game with the ‘Pack. A pair of Kelowna products combined with Anderson to power TRU to victory. Rylan Ibbetson racked up 23 kills with three blocks while Owen Waterhouse put down 16 kills.
At Vernon Secondary TRU outlasted the Heat by a score of 3-2.
Rookie setter Walker Sodaro was electric in his WolfPack debut, directing the offence to the tune of 22 assists while also recording two aces and ten digs. Fellow rookie Aiden Goetz racked up 15 kills and five digs while veteran middle Riley Brinnen put up 12 kills and six blocks.
TRU continues their exhibition schedule this weekend in Prince George where they will play a pair of exhibition games against the MacEwan Griffins. First up is a game Friday night at the College of New Caledonia Gym on Friday night at 7 p.m. before a second game on Saturday at the UNBC Gym also at 7 p.m.
