The Gee-Gees women’s volleyball team took on Laval and UQTR for a pair of road games on Friday and Saturday. Ottawa lost to Laval 3-2 on Friday night but turned it around with a Saturday afternoon 3-0 win over UQTR.

“It was a very tough loss on Friday versus Laval. [Ottawa] played the most disciplined and high-execution volleyball of the year in the first two sets to build a dominant 2-0 lead but we were given a really tough lesson about volleyball in this conference, it’s not over until it’s over.” Gee-Gees head coach, Lionel Woods said.

Although the Gee-Gees were unable to put away the game on Friday, there were great performances by the Gee-Gees throughout the evening. Audrey Odigie led the way with 18 kills, followed by Alana Leung and Janae McKay with 11 kills each.

The Gee-Gees had a solid start to the first set on Saturday against UQTR, they were first on the scoreboard, for what turned out to be a tight 26-24 victory.

Calling for a timeout when trailing 19-17, the Gee-Gees put together a strong finish, winning the set,

The Gee-Gees took over in the third and final set, taking a 25-16 win to finish up the game.

“We really showed maturity. [UQTR is] a tough team who just keeps grinding,” Woods said. “We stayed focused and pulled away by the third set.”

Denae Bristow tallied 9 kills for the Gee-Gees in the second match of the weekend, followed by Leung with 7 kills.

Up next, the Gee-Gees will host Sherbrooke for the first time this season on Nov. 25th at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at tickets.geegees.ca
