KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 3, 2023) – Queen’s Women’s Volleyball won against the Western Mustangs 3-2 (13-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-23. 15-10) Friday at the Athletics and Recreation Centre.
The Mustangs were competitive in the first set, taking advantage of early Queen’s mistakes. The Gaels, unable to match Western’s offense, fell 25-13.
As the match progressed, so did the home side. Queen’s opened the second set with four straight points, and ran with that lead until Western was finally able to tie it up 16-16. Nonetheless, Queen’s persevered and came out on top for the five-point win.
The third set was back-and-forth, but Western pulled ahead to take the set 25-16.
With intensity rising from both teams, the fourth set was a battle. In the last few points, the score was dangerously close, but Queen’s edged Western for the 2-point win.
Queen’s took the fifth set confidently, with a fierce kill from Mary Stewart to finish it off with a score of 15-10.
Stewart led the Gaels offensively with 16 kills and 4 aces. Vivian Zanutel topped the stats board with 19 digs. Shea Baker and Kennedy Millin added 15 assists each.
With this win, Queen’s record improved to 12-4.
The Gaels are back in action Saturday, February 4th at 6 p.m. as they once again take on the Western Mustangs at the ARC.
