Kyle Guenther wasn’t sure he’d return for the 2023-24 season. He’s sure glad he did.
The veteran head coach led the Providence University College Pilots to a rare perfect MCAC season.
Guenther has repeated as MCAC women’s volleyball coach of the year.
“Kyle’s return has filled a hole in this program. the team desperately needed his guidance and direction,” said Pilots captain Taylor Hiebert.
“His passion for the game has brought unity, joy and a fire to this year which was sparked by his relentless work ethic. I guarantee you there is no other coach that can balance what this guy does for this team.”
Guenther stepped down after the 2022-23 season but when the position was still available as this season neared, he agreed to return and is having enough fun to sign on for 2024-25.
And why wouldn’t he? The Pilots are two wins from 20-0. They get to chase perfection on home court in the final four, starting with Saturday’s first semifinal against the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges at noon.
The other semifinal features a pair of 9-9 teams in the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers and Assiniboine Community College Cougars at 2 p.m.
The final is on Sunday at 1 p.m.
