Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – A pair of important home games are on the horizon as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team is set to play their final games of 2023.
The WolfPack (4-6) will host the No. 8 ranked Trinity Western Spartans (5-5) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. The games are setting up to be crucial in the Canada West playoff race as the ‘Pack look to keep pace after a strong start to their campaign.
It was a pair of heartbreaking losses inside the TCC last week for TRU. The host WolfPack came up just shy in back-to-back 3-2 losses to the Manitoba Bisons.
TWU split a pair of games with the Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend, falling 3-1 Friday night before bouncing back in a 3-0 straight-sets victory.
The Spartans won both games that these teams played last season in Langley.
3 Things
1: There will be hot food and a beer garden served up inside the TCC all season long.
2: This will be the third time this season that the ‘Pack have faced a nationally ranked team, they are currently 2-2 in games against the No. 2 ranked Alberta Golden Bears and No. 4 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.
3: Entry to the games this weekend will be by donation! The WolfPack will be collecting donations and non-perishable goods to help support the Kamloops Food Bank through the annual Kamloops Transit Stuff the Bus event.
By The Numbers
168: Sam Flowerday of the ‘Pack is fifth in the conference with 168 kills.
46: With six of their ten games this season going to five sets, TRU has played the most sets of any team in the conference.
4.54: Henry Rempel of Trinity leads the conference 4.54 kills-per-set.
