1: After their game on Friday night the WolfPack will celebrate the career of graduating student-athlete Michael Svab.
2: Throughout the weekend every member of the Kamloops Volleyball Association will be able to enter the games for free.
3: There will be a beer garden and hot food being served inside the TCC all year long. Kid’s Club presented by McDonald’s is also back, featuring muffins, yogurt and colouring sheets
Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – It all comes down to the final weekend of the season for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team that faces a pair of crucial games inside the TCC.
Wrapping up their regular season at home against the UBC Thunderbirds (13-9) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the ‘Pack (8-14) sit on the edge of a tight playoff race.
Currently on the outside looking in, TRU is ninth in the conference with the top eight teams qualifying for the postseason. The ‘Pack will need victories over UBC while also closely watching results from the Calgary Dinos (10-12), Manitoba Bisons (9-13) and Winnipeg Wesmen (8-14) to reach the playoffs for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
TRU was in tough last weekend, taking on the U SPORTS No. 5 ranked TWU Spartans in Langley. Sam Flowerday had 28 kills on the weekend but the Spartans took the sweep with wins of 3-1 and 3-0.
UBC enters the weekend on the back of a sweep over the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Thunderbirds earned victories of 3-1 and 3-0. The visiting Thunderbirds will by trying to cement their spot in fifth in the conference with the possibility of catching the Saskatchewan Huskies for fourth.
TRU took three of four games off the Thunderbirds last season and also claimed a 3-0 win over UBC in a preseason match that took place back in early October.
Playing the final games of his university career this weekend will be graduating student-athlete Michael Svab. A Natural Resource Science major from Pincher Creek, AB Svab has played 35 regular season games for TRU in his two seasons with the team. A commanding presence in the middle for TRU, Svab has racked up 90 blocks for his squad.
