Senior outside hitters Logan House and Dean Globocki combined for 31 kills as the Brock men’s volleyball team wrangled the Western Mustangs 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 13.
After dropping the first set, the Badgers won three consecutive sets to capture their second win of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season.
The Badgers are currently tied at the top of the West Division with the No. 5-ranked McMaster Marauders, who they play twice next week in a home-and-home series.
“Right now, we are heading in the right direction,” said head coach Matt Ragogna . “We are taking care of a lot of things on our side of the court, but we can always be cleaner in some areas especially heading into a big match week versus McMaster. Our division is pretty open and competitive, so we have to be on our game every night. ”
House posted nine digs, and Globocki added seven. Second-year setter Grant Reddon dished out 43 assists.
Third-year middle Mark Naqvi threw up four blocks and contributed five kills.
The Badgers received strong performances from a group of their first-year players. Outside hitter Kylar Code scored seven kills, and middle Jacob Ferland registered five kills. In addition, free Ishaan Thandi chipped in three digs.
With the Mustangs desperately working their way back into the fourth set, Ferland tallied three kills throughout the set, including the final point to end the match.
Ferland completed the night with a .308 hitting percentage and two digs.
“It was exciting having three first-year players get some meaningful reps on the court these first few games,” said Ragogna. “Ferland is such a competitor, and his ability to make an impact at the net and the service line is a big boost for us after being out for the past month. He’s a gamer, and it’s fun to watch his work ethic every day prepare him well for these moments. ”
Next, The Badgers (2-0) host No. 5 McMaster (2-0) on Friday, Nov. 19, at Bob Davis Gymnasium. The first set begins at 8 p.m. Get your tickets here .
