EDMONTON – Rookie Abby Guezen and fifth-year Lauryn Tremblay combined for 22 kills as the Alberta Pandas swept the Calgary Dinos 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-16) Friday evening at the Saville Centre.
The win puts Alberta at 13-4 on the season, good for third place in the Canada West. Calgary slides to 7-10 on the year, currently holding onto a playoff position in seventh.
The Pandas were able to stifle the Dinos offence, holding them to a -.022 attacking percentage in the contest. They recorded 10 blocks, including three total blocks from fellow rookie standout Ronnie Dickson.
Sophie Reed paced the Dinos with nine kills and libero Michela Alongi was a star on the backline for the visitors. She recorded 12 digs to lead all players, and made some phenomenal saves for a Dinos defence that struggled to contain the Alberta attack at times.
The teams return to action tomorrow night for their last regular season matchup of the year.
