On Saturday, November 11, the No. 3 Brock Badgers’ women’s volleyball team completed a three-set sweep over the TMU Bold at Bob Davis Gymnasium off of Sadie Dick’s game-high 12 kills.
First-year setter MacKenna Knox earned her first start with the Badgers and led the Badgers’ offence, distributing a game-high 31 assists.
The Badgers were able to create a large advantage early in the first set as kills from Gigi Markotic and Madison Chimienti made it 6-3 for Brock.
A dig from St. Catharines native Emily Foest would lead to a Chimienti kill, giving Brock a 10-3 lead.
The TMU Bold were able to put themselves back into the set, cutting Brock’s lead down to just two multiple times.
A kill from Dick closed the set for Brock, fending off a late charge from the Bold, winning the set 25-19 for the Badgers.
Brock recorded three blocks and aces each in the first set win.
The Bold came out strong in the second set, taking a 4-0 lead but not for long as kills from Knox and Markotic pulled the Badgers back within one.
A string of kills from Dick saw Brock pull into the lead in the middle of the second set.
Shortly after recording a kill to make it 20-19 for the Badgers, Emma Baruchelli picked up an ace that sent the TMU Bold to a timeout.
A double block from Markotic and Knox gave Brock the second set win, taking it 25-23 over the TMU Bold.
The Badgers’ 15 kills and .333 hitting percentage was a large contributor to their second set efforts.
Service errors from TMU early in the third set helped Brock create a 4-2 lead.
Knox was able to serve up a one-handed assist to middle Meera Sayal who made no mistake earning a kill to make it 10-5 for Brock.
The Badgers pulled comfortably away from the Bold as Dick earned five kills in the third set. It was another block, this time from Markotic and Foest which gave Brock a 25-17 set win, completing the sweep over TMU.
