PETERBOROUGH – Finishing their regular season schedule with a road doubleheader, the No. 2 Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team delivered a swift three set victory in Peterborough versus the Trent Excalibur on Saturday afternoon. Set scores in the match were 25-13, 25-13, 25-15.
Looking to finish atop the OUA standings, the Badgers improved their record to 17-2 with one more match remaining versus the Excalibur tomorrow afternoon. The top eight teams in the OUA qualify for the postseason, so Brock will secure first overall in the OUA with a victory tomorrow, while keeping an eye on other results to determine their playoff opponent.
On the court on Saturday, head coach Steve Delaney utilized his full roster as 12 different Badgers recorded a point in the win, led by 11.5 from third-year outside hitter Meera Sayal. Predominately delivering from the left side, Sayal finished the contest with 10 kills, one service ace, and one block assist. Meanwhile, both Grace Pyatt and Laurin Ainsworth tallied 8.5 points for the Badgers, with the latter also chipping in with nine digs defensively.
A dynamic athlete all season long from her setter position, Sara Rohr added another 37 assists along with a game-high 11 digs. The Badgers veteran continues to rank first in the OUA in assists per game averaging 9.67 with one match remaining.
Natalia Fournier led all Excalibur players in the loss, posting a team-high 12 points from eight kills, three aces, and two block assists,
Brock will conclude their regular season schedule tomorrow in Peterborough versus the Excalibur. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m., with all the action streamed online via OUA.tv.
