Brock started the season off with a thrilling win over Queen’s.
The No. 10 Brock Badgers women’s volleyball captured a 3-2 (26-24, 25-27, 25-21, 23-25, 18-16) win over the No. 6 nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels on Friday, Nov. 1 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Sadie Dick led the Badgers in points with 22.5 of 21 kills, one ace and 0.5 blocks, while second-year setter Mackenna Knox recorded a game-high 58 assists in the victory.
A close opening set started with Brock capturing a 26-24 win, which included Charlotte Ross recording her first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) kill midway through the set.
The second set needed more time to find a decider, but it was the visiting Gaels who came away with the set 27-25 victory thanks to a kill from Amanda Siksna.
Looking to swing momentum back in their favour, Brock battled closely with Queen’s before kills from Dick and Emily Foest helped the hosts take a 2-1 set advantage, winning the third set 25-21.
With their backs against the wall, Queen’s took a commanding lead midway through the fourth set and didn’t look back as they won 25-23, sending the contest to a fifth set.
Two consecutive kills from Foest set the Badgers up for a home opener victory and an error from the Gaels sealed the deal as Brock came away with an 18-16 set win.
Brock’s .277 hitting percentage bested Queen’s .250 in the victory.
Next, the Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team host the Queen’s Gaels again, this time on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m at Bob Davis Gymnasium. You can find tickets for the match at https://brocku.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=2256 or watch along on OUA.tv
