Nine Rio 2016 holdovers banner Rwanda women’s roster

Jean-Marie Vianney Nsengiyumva has called up 12 players to Rwanda’s women’s national sitting volleyball team roster to officially begin their campaign ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Nine players from Rwanda’s Rio 2016 roster are returning to the roster including captain Liliane Mukobwankawe and libero Solange Nyiraneza.

Nsengiyumva told the Weekend Sport the team now awaits restrictions in Rwanda to be lifted to allow players residing outside Kigali to join their preparations. Eight players in the current roster are situated outside the capital city.

“We will start with two training sessions a week until June before reporting to camp for intensive training in July,” Nsengiyumva said.

Rwanda is also expected to play friendly matches in Okinawa, Japan as part of their preparations. The team secured its slot at Tokyo 2020 after successfully defending its African Championship title in 2019.
