GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons men’s volleyball team continued their impressive 2023-24 season with a straight sets win on Thursday night over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (3-4) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Set scores were 26-24, 25-22 & 25-20. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 8-2 on the season and remain atop the OUA standings, while the Varsity Blues fall to 3-4 on the season. Gryphon standout Jonny Pickett finished the night with a team-high 17.5 points (16 kills), while Josh Glasbergen (11 pts) and Alexander Odle (11 pts) also reached double figures in scoring on the night.
In their return to action after the holiday break, the Gryphons produced one of their most exciting wins of the season. After taking a hard-fought opening set the Gryphons were able to carry that momentum into a convincing second-set win. Following the second set the Gryphons found themselves trailing early in the third before going on a dominant 12-2 run and closing out the straight-sets victory.
Guelph’s next three matches all come on the road (Jan. 5 at York, Jan. 12 & 13 at RMC) before the Gryphons return home on January 19 to once again host the Varsity Blues.
