MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: STRONG EFFORT NOT ENOUGH FOR LAKERS AGAINST BROCK

Published on

Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team wasn’t rewarded for their impressive efforts last weekend against McMaster and were hoping for some favourable results as they hit the court again.

The Lakers entertained the Brock Badgers in their first of a pair of matches this weekend Friday night.

Very little separated the two teams, but at the end of the day, the Lakers dropped a very competitive match in straight sets, losing 3-0.

The Lakers came out flying, jumping out to a 6-1 lead early on in the first set.

Nipissing extended their lead to 13-9 midway through the set and expanded that advantage to 23-20 late, but couldn’t close out the set.

The Badgers went on a 7-2 run to steal the first set 27-25.

In the second, Brock carried the momentum over from the first game and grabbed an early 13-11 lead.

They pushed their lead to 20-14 before claiming the second game 25-21 to go up 2-0.

Nipissing played come-from-behind volleyball in the third set, trailing 14-12 midway through the set and erased a 21-18 deficit late to tie the set 22-22.

Unfortunately for Nipissing, the Badgers snuck out a 26-24 win in the third to sweep the match.

Tyrus Cuculick led the Lakers offence with nine kills.

The Lakers and Badgers are back at it again Saturday afternoon, hitting the court at 6pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
