MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS SWEEP ASIDE WARRIORS TO WRAP UP THE FIRST HALF

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team had to work for it, but they managed to come up big on the weekend, wrapping up the first half of the season in style.

The Lakers fought to claim two wins over the Waterloo Warriors, winning 3-1 Friday night and 3-2 in thrilling fashion Saturday.

The Lakers dropped the first set Friday, 27-25, before winning three straight – 26-24, 25-20 and 25-20 to claim the match in four sets.

Jackson Young had a big match with 22 kills, Jacob Ringma added 15 and Jeremie Murray had 11 in the win.

In the second match, the teams split the first four sets, with Waterloo taking the opening game 25-20 before Nipissing stormed back.

The Lakers won the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-22 before the Warriors responded to tie the match, claiming a 25-16 win in set four.

After being down 14-10 in the fifth and final set, the Lakers stormed back to win 17-15 and pick up the weekend sweep.

Jacob Ringma had a big night, posting 20 kills and 22.5 points, while Jeremie Murray added eight kills and Tyrus Cuculick chipped in with seven in the victory.

Nipissing begins the 2023 portion of the season with a pair of matches against the Brock Badgers on the road.
