It was an up and down weekend for the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team during their road trip in Kingston.
The Lakers finished the weekend with a 1-1 record, losing 3-0 to the Queen’s Gaels before sweeping the RMC Paladins.
With the split, the Lakers now sit at 7-1 on the season and tied for first place heading into the final few weekends of the year.
In the first match of the weekend, the Gaels jumped out to a quick start and claimed the first set 25-14 before winning 25-20 in the next two games to earn the sweep.
Tyrus Cuculick led the Lakers offence with 10 kills and 12 points, while Liam Ludlow added nine kills in the match.
On Sunday, Nipissing rebounded to sweep the Paladins for their seventh win of the season.
The Lakers won 25-20 in the opening set, 25-22 in the middle game and 27-25 in the third game to close out the match in straight sets.
Once again, Cuculick was the leader for the Lakers, posting 11 kills and 14.5 points, while Zack Thibeault and Patrick Hebert each added 10 kills in the win.
Up next, the Lakers host the Trent Excalibur Saturday afternoon to wrap up the home portion of the regular season.
Match time is set for 2pm at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.
