Box Score A great start didn’t translate into a win for the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team, but they had a chance to grab a weekend split Saturday.
Hitting the court once again against the Queen’s Gaels, the Lakers were looking to bounce back from a loss Friday night.
The Lakers stayed closed, stay competitive, took a set, but in the end, came up short, losing 3-1 to the Gaels to close out the weekend.
The Gaels started strong, where they left off last night.
While the teams traded points early, it was the Gaels who pulled away late, grabbing a 25-18 win to take the opening set.
In the second set, Nipissing bounced back and started very well, leading 13-11, but were unable to hold on, eventually surrendering a late lead and losing 25-23, going down 2-0 in the match.
With their backs against the wall, the Lakers came up with a gutsy effort in the third set, taking advantage of their opportunities late, building up a 22-20 lead before closing out the set, winning 25-21.
In the fourth, the Gaels put the match away, grinding out a 25-18 win to claim the match in four sets.
Justice Smith led the Lakers with 10 kills in Saturday’s match.
The Lakers remain at home, hosting the RMC Paladins next weekend in their final regular season home games of the season.
