MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS FALL IN STRAIGHT SETS TO QUEEN’S

Box Score

The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team has been close – to say the least.

While their record doesn’t show it, the Lakers have been on the verge of an impressive run a number of times, coming just short against some of the league’s top opponents.

As they welcome another one, the Queen’s Gaels, the Lakers are looking for a late season push.

The Lakers came out short, despite a strong effort and giving a strong opponent a scare, but fell 3-0.

A thrilling first set saw the teams trade points the entire game.

Early on, it was Queen’s who grabbed an early lead, up 11-10, but Nipissing stormed back late in the game to take the lead.

Then things got interesting.

Queen’s regained the lead, going up 25-24 as the teams went point-for-point until the Gaels came out on top, winning 29-27.

In the second set, the Gaels took an early lead and didn’t look back, grabbing an early lead and playing their way to a 25-20 win to go up 2-0.

In the third set, the Lakers battled to stay alive, but weren’t able to come back, trailing 10-8 early and 18-16 late in the set.

From there, Queen’s finished things off, winning 25-17 to take the match.

Jacob Ringma led the Lakers with nine kills in the match.

The same teams are back on the court Saturday evening, wrapping up their weekend series.

Match time is set for 6pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
