Men’s Volleyball earn big comeback victory over Nipissing in OUA Playoffs

KINGSTON, Ont. (March 12, 2022) – Queen’s Men’s Volleyball dropped the first set and were down 16-8 in the second set of their OUA Playoffs second round match against the Nipissing Lakers before staging an incredible comeback to win the match 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16) and advance to the East Division Final.

Head coach Gabriel deGroot played a number of players and the Gaels managed to rally from eight points down in the second set to win it by three points. Queen’s didn’t look back, winning the third set by five points and taking the fourth set by nine points to win the match.

Cole Duncanson (St. Catherines, Ont.) finished with a game-high 14 kills while adding four blocks and an ace.

Erik Siksna (Markham, Ont.) finished with nine kills and two aces while Benjamin Moffat (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 16 assists and eight digs to lead the Gaels.

Derek Chiang (Markham, Ont.) finished with a game-high five blocks while Shane Gabel (Winnipeg, Man.) finished with six kills, six digs, and an ace.

With the win, the Gaels advanced to the OUA East Final where they will take on the Toronto Varsity Blues. Queen’s will face the Varsity Blues Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Toronto, Ont.
