BOX SCORE
In their Friday night match up, Queen’s Men’s Volleyball took on the Windsor Lancers at home. The Gaels fell to the Lancers in four sets (18-25, 23-25, 25-16, 20-25).
“We had marked Windsor on the calendar as a team that was going to be a top two team in the OUA. We think they’re right up there as one of the best, so we knew that going in,” Head Coach
“This is good for us. We need to be pushed by other good teams, and we got pushed tonight,” deGroot added.
Zig Licis (Computer Engineering) led the team in points with 15.5 from 14 kills, and three blocks. Reed Venning (Arts & Science) added another 11 points for the Gaels and Lachlan McBride (Law) bagged 10.5.
Queen’s was neck in neck with the Lancers though the first, until Windsor pulled ahead at the 12 point mark and took the set.
In the second, it was the Gaels that took an early lead; however, they were unable to maintain the point differential and dropped the set.
In the third set, middle Alex Brbarevic entered the game and changed the tides for the Gaels. Brbarevic’s strong presence at the net, both offensively and defensively, helped change the energy in the ARC, bringing the Gaels back to their aggressive playing style, and to a solid 25-16 win.
The Lancers fought back in the fourth and closed out the game, taking the set.
“We’ll go back and adjust our game plan. Make some adjustments to what they did and then go at it again. There’s a lot of improvement that needs to happen on our side of the net before we worry too much about what they’re doing,” deGroot said, commenting on the plans for tomorrow.
The Gaels take on the Lancers again on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6pm, at the ARC. Tickets are for sale on the Queen’s ticket website.
