Saturday afternoon is the back half of a weekend doubleheader between the Royals and Mariners who are dead even in the standings with 16 points each.
Friday night it was a marathon at VIU as the Royals snuck out with an incredible five-set victory that was unpredictable until the last point was scored.
The visiting Royals took the first set 25-23. Then in the second the teams went back and forth and needed extra points. In the end the Mariners would tie the match at one with a 31-29 victory. They would use that momentum in the third set as well, winning 25-19.
However, the Royals battled back in the fourth to force a fifth set with a 25-17 win. In the final set neither team wanted to give an inch and again needed extra points. Finally in the end the Royals completed the comeback winning 20-18. The rematch is set for Saturday afternoon.
