Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball head coach Patty Murray is pleased to announce the commitment of Abby Melvin for the 2024-25 season.

Hailing from Prospect Bay, Nova Scotia, Melvin played for Halifax West High School. The libero led her West teammates to an undefeated season in 2023-24, resulting in a School Sport Nova Scotia provincial title. The 2021-22 Halifax West Rookie of the Year, Melvin was named the 2023-24 Female Athlete of the Year and was the volleyball MVP in 2022-23.

A two year member of the Volleyball Nova Scotia Provincial Excellence Program, she represented her home province for two years. This past season she played for the Fury Volleyball Club who won the Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial title. Previously, Melvin played her club volleyball for Sonics Volleyball Club and was named the team MVP in the 2022-23 season.

“Being able to represent Dalhousie on and off the court is something I am very honoured to be able to do,” says Melvin. “I’m so excited to start this journey with my new teammates and coaches.”

Melvin will be working towards a bachelor of science in nursing while at Dalhousie.

“After transitioning from the outside hitter position this year, Abby quickly established herself as a libero to watch,” says Murray. “She brings consistency and stability to serve receive, while her athleticism and determination make her an impactful defensive player. We are excited to add Abby to the roster for this season and know she will continue to play an important role for years to come.”

The Tigers open their 2024-25 season at home on October 25 when they host the UNB REDS.
