McMaster’s Sundara and Nipissing’s Nicholson named U SPORTS volleyball athletes of the week

McMaster’s Sullie Sundara and Nipissing’s Josh Nicholson have been named the U SPORTS volleyball athletes of the week for the period ending December 4, 2022.

Sullie Sundara, McMaster

  • Position: Outside Hitter
  • Year: 2nd
  • Hometown: Kanata, Ont.
  • Major: Social Sciences

Sullie Sundara led McMaster to a pair of five-set wins over then-No. 7 Queen’s last weekend. On Friday, she recorded a season-best 21 kills on 43 attempts and added 10 digs, scoring 26.5 total points. The next day, she had 19 kills and eight digs as the Marauders completed the sweep. She is currently fourth in the country in both total points (190.5) and points per set (4.9) and is in the Top 10 nationally in kills, aces and solo blocks. 

 

Josh Nicholson, Nipissing

  • Position: Setter
  • Year: 3rd
  • Hometown: Richmond Hill, Ont.
  • Major: Physical & Health Education

Josh Nicholson set the Nipissing Lakers up for a weekend sweep of Waterloo. He collected 54 assists in Friday’s 3-1 win over the Warriors, averaging 13.5 per set. He also made six digs. On Saturday, Nipissing again rebounded from an opening-set loss to win 3-1, and Nicholson made 43 assists, along with four digs and a kill. His 97 assists for the weekend gave him the OUA lead, as he averaged a nice 9.69 assists per set.
