Gold Medal Match: VIU Mariners 3, vs Douglas Royals 1
The Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners made it four-straight CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Championships after a four-set victory over conference rival, the Douglas College Royals, on Sunday night in Charlottetown, PEI.
Set wins of 25-22 and 25-17 gave the Mariners the convincing lead, but a hard-charging Royals squad fought back to win the third, 25-21. A back-and-forth 25-23 win in the fourth set secured the win for the VIU Mariners, and the title.
Statistical standouts for the Mariners were Yevgeniya Lytvynenko with 22 kills and Linnea Brickwood with 44 assists, four service aces and 11 digs.
Brickwood (VIU) and Grace McGillivray (Douglas) were named the 4Imprint Players of the Match.
Bronze Medal Match: Red Deer Queens 3, Lynx d’Édouard-Montpetit 2
The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens outlasted the Cégep d’Édouard-Montpetit Lynx in five-sets on Sunday evening to win the 2022 CCAA National Bronze medals.
After falling in the first set 25-16, a second set win of 25-22 by the Queens evened the match. Red Deer fell in the third, 25-17, before mounting a comeback with wins in the fourth, 25-21, and fifth, 25-12, to claim the win.
Anica Pineault (Lynx) and Jailyn Stouffer (Queens) led the match with 18 kills each, while Emma Letkeman (Queens) recorded a match-high 51 assists. Eight different players recorded two service aces each while Kaylee Domoney (Queens) led the match with 24 digs.
Stouffer (Queens) and Pineault (Lynx) were named the 4Imprint Players of the Match.
Match 10: Lynx d’Édouard-Montpetit 3, Humber Hawks 2
The first five-set match of the championship came on Sunday afternoon when the Cégep d’Édouard-Montpetit Lynx and Humber College Hawks battled at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, PEI.
The Hawks opened the match with a 26-24 opening set win before dropping the second, 25-21. A Humber third set victory of 27-25 was again followed by a Lynx win in the fourth, 25-21. The Lynx outlasted the Hawks in the fifth, winning 15-11.
Statistically, Oriane Racine (Lynx) led the way with 19 kills in the match, while Ariane Provencher (Lynx) had 50 assists. Alex Lachapelle (Humber) had a match-high 29 digs. Five players each had two service aces in the match, including Provencher, Racine and Juliette Lajeunesse from the Lynx, and Alex Bartmann and Hannah Manners from the Hawks.
The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Béatrice Dubreuil (Lynx) and Alex Lachapelle (Humber).
Match 9: Red Deer Queens 3, Les Rouges de Saint-Boniface 0
The day began on Sunday morning with the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens defeating Les Rouges des Université de Saint-Boniface in straight-sets in Charlottetown.
Set wins of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-9 powered the Queens to victory, advancing them to the CCAA National Bronze Medal match.
Statistically, Jadyn Leong and Annalise Carlson (RDP) led the way with nine kills each in the match, while teammate, Emma Letkeman, recorded 30 assists in the win. Tess Pearman (RDP) led the match with three service aces while Kaylee Domoney (RDP) recorded a match-high 19 digs in the win.
The 4Imprint Players of the Game were Domoney (Queens) and Valeria Gonzalez (Les Rouges).
