The No. 3 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders picked up their seventh straight win of the season, dropping the Western Mustangs on the road in London 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Cooper led all players with 12 kills, and added in two blocks on the night, while Mateusz Wlodarski and Maxime Gratton both recorded 11 kills apiece. Wlodarski recorded a game-high 16.5 points thanks to an impressive .556 hitting percentage, along with four total blocks and two service aces.
Meanwhile, first-year setter, Robbie Fujisawa, dished out 37 assists in the four-set match.
Western’s first set win was a credit to their offence connecting 13 kills on 22 total attacks (.455 hitting percentage). The team broke even in sets three and four, hitting as many kills as errors with seven in the third set, and four in the final frame.
Firing on all cylinders, the Marauders were extremely effective on the sets they won – hitting .476, .429, and .346 in sets two, three, and four for a .382 average hitting percentage.
With the win, the Marauders now move to 7-0 and continue to stay atop the OUA West Division with five more games on the schedule before playoffs. The team will now look ahead to Thursday as they hit the road to take on Windsor.
