NORTH BAY, Ont. – The women’s volleyball team is on a roll. Tonight’s rematch against the Nipissing Lakers went similarly to yesterday’s game, with complete dominance by McMaster. Despite navigating new lineups, they won both games 3-0, which is a testament to the resiliency and power of the team.
Once again, the Marauders had a great start to the game, taking a substantial lead early on in the first set. The Lakers lessened the gap and almost caught up several times. In the end, though, McMaster won the set 25-16. Middle Jenna Woock had an impressive first set with 3 aces, 2 kills, and 2 blocks. The second set was much more competitive. Egged on by their enthusiastic home crowd, the Lakers stepped up their offensive game and appeared to be in much higher spirits. It was a close set right down to the end, with a 24-24 tie eventually being broken by the Marauders who won 26-24. Outside hitter Emma McKinnon made 3 kills in a row to start off the third set. McMaster built off of this momentum to continue to assert their dominance. They won the third set with ease 25-13.
Regardless of changes to the lineup, the women always show up big when they are needed. After reaching a new season-high in points last night, Emma McKinnon had another season-high tonight, recording 16 points off of 13 kills. Jenna Woock was all over the stat-line and also put up a season high with 14 points from 6 kills, 5 aces, and 3 blocks.
With today’s win, the team now has an extremely impressive 90% win rate for the season. The sky’s the limit for these women. Next week, on Friday and Saturday, they will return to Hamilton for their first home games of the 2024 year against the Western Mustangs.
