The No. 2 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team took care of business in sweeping fashion on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors at Burridge Gym.
The win gives the Marauders their ninth straight victory of the season, as they remain the only undefeated team in the conference.
Due to covid restrictions, the Marauders fielded a slightly different rotation with Brendan Mills making his way into the starting rotation, and in a big way. The first-year outside hitter led all players with a career-high 14 kills on an impressive .684 hitting percentage.
The Marauders made their presence known on the offence regularly throughout the match, going for a .471 and .533 hitting percentage in the first two sets.
Outside hitter, Sam Cooper, stunned the Warriors defence with a blazing six service aces – a career-high for the second-year player.
First-year setter, Robbie Fujisawa, was steady in his role, dishing out 29 assists along with six digs, while veteran libero, Jordan Pereira, kept pace in his regular leadership role – Pereira recorded six digs and one assist on the night.
On the sideline, Assistant Coach Brad Douwes was at the helm recording his first OUA victory in an interim role.
With the win, the Marauders move up to 9-0 atop the OUA West division rankings, while the Warriors fall to 2-8 on the season.
Next up for the No. 2 ranked team are the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night in Burridge Gym. Match time is scheduled for 8pm.
