The McMaster Marauders defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies in the consolation final to secure fifth place, the best finish in program history, on the final day of the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship in Burridge Gymnasium.

Sullie Sundara, Olivia Julien and Ellie Hatashita all hit double digits in kills, combining for 35 to lead the Marauders and secure a 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-15) victory for the McMaster squad.

In a tight first set, the Huskies secured a 25-18 win. The second set saw the teams go back-and-forth, with the lead never exceeding more than four points. McMaster battled hard and earned a 26-24 Set #2 victory to tie the match at 1-1. The Marauders maintained the momentum, taking set three 25-15. The hosts then won set four by an identical scoreline, securing the match in the process.

Lauryb Colpitts tallied 27 assists along with six digs to help clinch fifth place for the Marauders. Olivia Bell recorded 28 kills to lead the Huskies who clinched sixth place.

The Marauders entered the weekend as the #7 seed and fell to the UBC Thunderbirds in their quarterfinal matchup. McMaster responded with a 3-0 sweep in the consolation semifinal  on Saturday over the Brock Badgers, a team they faced three time this season, before claiming victory over the SMU Huskies to close out their championship.

SMU began their tournament on a high, stealing a set from the top-seeded Manitoba Bisons. The Huskies dropped the Montréal Carabins in the consolation semifinal before closing out the weekend with the loss to the Marauders.
