The McMaster Marauders women’s volleyball team swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves in three sets last night in their first away game of the season.
All the way in Thunder Bay, the Marauders picked up their third straight win, adding to their undefeated record.
McMaster took the first two sets 25-20 but blew out the Thunderwolves 25-12 in the final.
In the first two close sets, McMaster led with the most kills and total attacks — the second set saw some particularly intense action with 27 attacks for McMaster and 24 for Lakehead.
Emma McKinnon led the Marauder’s attacking line with 10 kills and three aces, as well as five digs to help return the ball.
Although McMaster ran away with the third set, Lakehead took them in total attacks. However, it was the Marauders 10 kills that helped secure the win.
McMaster led the game in every stats category, including aces, with nine, and assists with 26.
While the offence put on a show, the Marauders also held a strong defensive line, blocking the Thunderwolves five times and making 26 digs to return Lakehead’s attempts.
