Manitoba’s Surinx and Fenwick of Western named U SPORTS Volleyball Players of the Week

Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Raya Surinx, Manitoba 

  • Position: Outside hitter
  • Hometown: Winnipeg, MB
  • Year: 2nd year

Last year’s national Rookie of the Year contributed 35 kills over two games against UBCO. The two wins improved No. 8 Manitoba’s record to 10-2, going undefeated in since October 28.

On Friday (3-0), Surinx posted 14 kills, hitting .310 with just five errors on 29 attacks. She followed that up on Saturday (3-0) with a three-set career high of 21 kills, just five short of her all-time best. Surinx hit a career-best .613 in the Saturday win, recording just two errors on 31 attacks. She also added two aces, two assists, and seven digs. Surinx leads the nation in kills with 195, and kills per set with 4.76. She’s also second in the nation in errors, committing just 85, while her 432 total attacks also rank first in the country.

Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Blake Fenwick, Western

  • Position: Left Side
  • Hometown: Etobicoke, ON
  • Year: 4th year
  • Program: Graduate Studies

Fenwick and the Western Mustangs swept the Nipissing Lakers, winning 3-2 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. Fenwick posted 14 kills and had a 0.159 hit rate on 44 attacks. He was able to get 17 points. Fenwick continued his outstanding performance on Saturday by setting up 4 plays, posting 23 kills, and hitting 0.313 on 48 total attacks. He tallied 23.5 points.
