The York University Lions women’s volleyball team remains home at Tait McKenzie Centre for their last game of the Fall term on Sunday against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Lions pushed the OUA’s top ranked Gryphons to 4 sets last weekend, but fell 3-1.
On Saturday evening the Lions hosted the Gryphons, with Guelph getting the opening 11-2 run to start the game. After a quick timeout, the Lions found themselves back in the game levelling the score at 13. Victoria Herrington’s kill gave the Lions their first lead of the set 21-20, but Guelph jumped and won the first set 25-23. Showcasing their skill in the first, York muscled back to win the second set 25-20 heading into the third. The Lions caught the Gryphons off guard to start the third, but Guelph bounced back in another tight set to attain a 2-1 lead. The fourth set favoured the Gryphons, as Alisa Trubyuk’s 11 kills of the night was not enough and the Lions fell 3-1.
