LIONS WELCOME IN TORONTO FOR FINAL GAME OF 2023

The York University Lions men’s volleyball team is looking to break a three game losing skid this weekend against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Pushing the Gryphons into 4 sets last weekend, the Lions were defeated 3-1.

A Friday night at Tait McKenzie Centre saw the Lions try to improve their 1-4 record as the opening of the season begins to come to a wrap. Alexandra Ignat and Shaun Schonert lead the Lions offence in the first set, solidifying four kills each to encourage a 25-23 set one win. The Lions strong opening performance was quickly shut down as the Gryphons controlled the remaining three sets to defeat York 3-1.

#20 RICHARD HOUSEN: Third-year middle blocker… In 5 matches and 19 sets played in his third season with the Lions, he has recorded 53 total attacks and 20 kills, while coming up big on the defensive end, sitting tied at 2nd in the OUA in block solo’s with 8… He set a seasons high 16 total attacks, 7 kills and 8.5 points on Nov. 25 against the Guelph Gryphons.

#2 ALEXANDRU IGNAT: First-year outside hitter… Joining the Lions this season, he has appeared in 4 matches playing 10 sets… His .302 hitting percentage is 8th best in the OUA, while his 0.50 service aces per set is 5th amongst all players… He set a seasons high 24 total attacks, 11 kills and 14.0 points on Nov. 25 against the Guelph Gryphons… Playing his first year in the red and white, Ignat has shown great strides to be a top rookie on the team.
