Box Score It’s now two wins in a row for the York University Lions women’s volleyball team. After a big win Friday night, the Lions followed it up with a second victory in as many games in straight sets over the Guelph Gryphons Saturday night.
York looked focused and composed as they controlled the game to win three sets, 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20.
Top performances came from Olivia Kim, who led the team with 16 points, Christina Piccinin, and Madison Shanks. The Lions maintained the lead for most of the game with the game-winning kill coming from Jessica Reynolds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw multiple momentum swings before the Lions took control late. With the score at 4-4, the Lions strung together five straight points. It featured several kills for Kim and great blocking by Amari Endes and Chiara Da Silva.
- Guelph would retaliate with a seven-point streak of their own to take the lead at 12-11. York then returned fire with five straight points, putting the set out of reach for the Gryphons.
- York started off the second set in phenomenal fashion, getting the first seven points of the set without reply. Guelph rallied and managed a streak of five points but were unable to extend it with service errors and overhit spikes causing them to remain behind the Lions in scoring.
- .A more aggressive performance from the Gryphons had them trading the lead several times with York in the third set. This lasted until late in the game, when the Lions pulled away and earned the straight sets win.
LOOKING AHEAD
York will look to extend their win streak when they take on the Trent Excalibur at 1:00 pm for the final game before the holiday break.
