The York University Lions women’s volleyball team hits the court again, taking on the Queen’s Gaels for the second game of the weekend. Eager to bounce back after their loss to the Gaels last night, the team looks to gain their first victory of 2024 and their second win of the overall season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set began with the Lions showing agility and making creative plays, while the Gaels took more control when they had a 5-point streak to make the game 18-12. The Lions fought back to bring it to 23-18 with significant contribution from Victoria Herrington. Despite their effort, the Gaels took the first set 25-18.
The second set goes point-for-point from 5-5 to 9-9. The Gaels wind up taking the lead 14-9 with some strong blocks and kills. The Lions take a timeout to try and regroup going into the second half of the set. From there, the Gaels take off and are winning the second set 21-15 until the Lions demonstrate a surge of energy and bring the score to 23-18. Unfortunately, that would be all for York as the Queens Gaels take the second set, once again with a score of 25-18.
The Lions start the third set with a 5-3 lead as their strong blocks and kills prove too much for the Gaels. Alisa Trubyuk leaves the Gael’s players scrambling. Amarai Endes and Victoria Herrington provide a strong block bringing the score to 11-8 in favour of the Lions. The Lions and Gaels go point-for-point once again, landing at 22-22, leaving viewers wondering who would take the set. The Lions show a strong finish, winning the set 25-23 with a strong kill from Brooklyn Parliament. The overall score is now 2 sets to 1 for the Gaels.
Queens starts the fourth set strong, but the Lions show determination as they regain the lead 7-4. With the Lions lacking the finishing touch, Gaels take the lead 16-12. The Lions gain some momentum and find themselves within 4 points at 23-19. The Gaels end up taking the fourth set, 25-19, and the game, 3 sets to 1.
