The York University Lions women’s volleyball team is back in action at Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday for a contest against the McMaster Marauders. Falling to the Brock Badgers last weekend, fighting to four sets in both games, the Lions are in search of their first victory.
In what seemed to be a strong opening set for the Lions on Saturday evening, quickly turned in favour of Brock. The Badgers opened the game taking a 7-point lead, but the Lions never let them out of sight as Victoria Herrington provided the first kill of the season, climbing back to win the first set 25-21. The second set remained close, as Brock’s service errors gave way to the Lions, but the Badgers took the second set 25-18. Herrington’s 10 kills of the game was not enough for the Lions to bounce back as they lost 3 sets to 1.
Going head-to-head on Sunday evening once again, the game was back-and-forth from the opening serve. The Badgers quickly gained control opening a 15-7 point lead before securing the first set 25-15. The second set was similar to the beginning, with neither team securing a large enough lead, but Amarai Endes ended the set with a kill to take the second 25-23. Brock opened the third in control, but York’s Ella Rohani and Madison Shanks worked to level the score at 26 a piece, until a Badgers kill gave them the third set. The Badgers ran away in the final set, despite York climbing back in the middle, and they fell once again 3-1.
