LIONS HOST GRYPHONS, BLUES TO START 2024

The York University Lions men’s volleyball team kick starts the 2024 portion of their season with two home matches against the Guelph Gryphons and Toronto Varsity Blues. After wrapping up 2023 with a 1-6 record the Lions are hopeful to start the new year on the right foot.

Under the guidance of their new Head Coach, Jordan Taylor, the Lions secured their first victory of the season in an exciting five set match against the McMaster Marauders. 

The beginning of the season might not have opened how the Lions wanted, but their determination and fight on the court can bounce them back into a good position in the standings.

Lions To Watch:

#11 MARTIN PRINSLOO: Fourth-year outside hitter… In his three matches played this season, he has recorded 24 kills, leading the Lions offence with 2.67 kills per set on 51 attacks… Recording 26.0 points, he leads the Lions with 2.9 points per set… His leadership and experience on the court has helped keep the Lions in games and battle back.

#2 ALEXANDRU IGNAT: First-year outside hitter… Throughout his first five matches played with the Lions, his .300 hitting percentage is 10th in the OUA… On 50 total attacks he has recorded 22 kills averaging 1.83 kills per set, recording a seasons high 24 total attacks, 11 kills and 14.0 points on Nov. 24 against Guelph.
