LIONS CLASH WITH NO. 4 TORONTO IN MEETING OF OUA EAST’S BEST

If anyone in the OUA East can topple the No. 4 nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues, it’s the York University Lions women’s volleyball team. At 7-1, they’ve been jockeying with the Blues for the division’s top spot all year, and now they’ll engage in a back-to-back.

  • York has been the beneficiary of some new recruits contributing right off the bat. Alisa Trubyuk is fifth across the entire OUA in service aces per set with 0.59.
  • The veterans have contributed as well – with Chiara Da Silva and Olivia Kim amongst the top of the OUA in services aces per set and hitting percentage respectively.
  • In each of the wins on their four-game win streak, the Lions haven’t lost a single set. They’re currently enjoying a 12-set streak heading into a crucial duo of games against No. 4 Toronto.

  • The Blues are coming off a 3-1 win over the Rams on Feb. 19, where they got scoring from different parts of their lineup.
  • Three Blues hitters were in double-figures in kills in the four-set victory. Middle Jenna Woock and outside hitter Julia Murmann both finished with 15 points as Woock notched 12 kills and three aces while Murmann had 15 kills.

Elina Zvigelsky: Led the Lions with nine kills and five blocks against Trent on Feb. 18 … A true competitor who is an offensively-focused middle and a strong server …Won a gold medal at the 2018 Youth Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Toronto

Asya Dogruer: First-year outside hitter earned 12 points off of a career-high 11 kills and one service ace against the Rams on Feb. 19.
