MONTREAL – Six different players reached double digits in scoring as the visiting Laval Rouge et Or rallied from a two-set deficit to edge McGill 3-2 in women’s volleyball at Love Competition, Sunday. In a spirited contest that took two hours and 16 minutes, the set scores were 17-25, 27-25, 26-28, 25-9 and 15-13.
It was the second straight win for Laval, which improved to 5-1, and the second consecutive setback for the Martlets (3-6)
Elyssa Lajmi paced McGill with 17.5 points, on the strength of 14 kills, once service ace, a solo block and three assisted blocks. She added nine digs and one assist.
Leading scorers for Laval were Justine Raymond (15 pts), Beatrice Lamarche 913), Anne-Sofie Charette (12.5), Alexandryne Le (12.5), Maika Bourgeois-Daigle (11) and Jade Marquis (10.5).
The game featured a whopping 139 digs, including 76 by Laval. The Rouge et Or also had the advantage in kills (59-41), aces (12-9), and assists (57-39), while McGill had a slight edge in stuff blocks (12-11).
The Rouget et Or (5-1) will return home to confront UQAM (3-3) on Nov. 15).
It was the final regular season home game of the fall semester for the Martlets who now hit the road for three consecutive contests: at ETS (Nov. 15), Laval (Nov. 22) and at Sherbrooke (Jan. 10).
