For the second straight season, a member of the Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball team has been named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie team. This time, it’s setter Katreena Bentley.
Bentley earned the national nod today, as the All-Canadian teams were announced ahead of the 2022 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship in Calgary. She follows Light Uchechukwu, who was named to the All-Rookie team in 2019-20.
Bentley, 20, put in a record-setting season at the setter position and established herself as one of the leaders at her position in her first year. The former Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Olympien led U SPORTS in assists per set with 10.53 and was the only player in CW to average double digits in that statistical category (one of four in the nation).
That mark is an eighth all-time season in Canada West history since assists were first recorded in 2002-03 and the most for a Bisons player in that time. Bentley also had 125 digs, 20 blocks and 19 kills this season.
Bentley was also a Canada West All-Rookie selection.
“I’m really proud of Katreena’s rookie season in U SPORTS,” said Bisons head coach Ken Bentley after her conference selection.
“Leading the nation in assists per set over the regular season is a quite an accomplishment for a first year setter. Katreena is devoted to the craft of setting and doing whatever she can every day to help her team get better. I’m excited to see her play improve in the coming years with more training on the court and in the weight room.”
Bisons women’s volleyball finished their season 6-10 in regular season play and 0-3 in first round pool play.
