Julien headlines OUA Women’s Volleyball Awards; four Marauders named All-Stars

BURLINGTON, Ont. – The McMaster Marauders women’s volleyball team is having a strong conference season with the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship just over a week away.

While every member of the team made contributions this season, four student-athletes stood out and were recognized by the OUA for their impressive campaigns.
 
Olivia Julien was named the top rookie in the province while also earning a nod as a Second Team All-Star and securing a spot on the All-Rookie Team.
 
Jenna Woock and Sullie Sundara were recognized as OUA First Team All-Stars while Ellie Hatashita was named a Second Team All-Star.

Olivia Julien – OUA Rookie of the Year, OUA Second Team All-Star & OUA All-Rookie Team

Olivia Julien had an outstanding first season for the Marauders and was one of McMaster’s key offensive threats. Making her mark, she earned 2024 OUA Rookie of the Year, OUA Second Team All-Star and OUA All-Rookie Team honours.
 
The rookie outside hitter ended the regular season with 160 kills and 193 points, averaging 2.54 kills per set in 18 matches played.
 
The Toronto local ranked in the Top 20 across in almost every statistical category across the OUA including total kills (160), kills per set (2.54), total attacks (507), service aces (22), service aces per set (0.35), receptions (286), digs (146) and digs per set (2.32).
 
The first year Life Sciences major recorded a season high 19 kills on January 13th against Western while contributing 21.5 points to the Marauders’ victory that weekend. She managed at least 10 kills in six matches, including three straight in the second half of the season.
 
Julien has cemented herself as an integral member of the McMaster lineup and will look to close out her season on a high at the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship.
 
 

Sullie Sundara – OUA First Team All-Star
Social Psychology
Kanata, Ont.
 
A third year outside hitter, Sullie Sundara earned her third straight OUA First Team All-Star honour this season. The Kanata local ranked first in the OUA in service aces per set (0.85), second in total service aces (35) and sixth in kills per set (3.49) throughout the regular season.
 
With 186 points and 143 kills in just 12 matches played, the Kanata local was among the province’s best attackers. She also tallied nine blocks, including seven solo, 84 digs and seven assists while recording a .224 hitting percentage.
 
She had a season high 22 kills and 23 points against Waterloo on Seniors’ Night in Burridge Gymnasium. The Social Psychology student will be key to the Marauders’ offence in the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship.
 

 
Jenna Woock – OUA First Team All-Star
Medical Radiation Sciences
Richmond Hill, Ont.
 
An experienced middle, Jenna Woock added her fifth All-Star nod in as many seasons, this time in maroon. The Richmond Hill local recorded 99 kills in her final year of varsity volleyball, averaging 1.77 kills per set. She also added 15 service aces.
 
On the defence, Woock has been dominant at the net, totaling an impressive 39 blocks, including 23 solo.
 
She had a season high night for McMaster against the TMU Bold in January, tallying nine kills, 14 points and eight digs.
 
The Medical Radiation Sciences student played in 15 matches for the Marauders and will compete at her second U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship later this month.
 

 
Ellie Hatashita – OUA Second Team All-Star
Commerce
Kanata, Ont.
 
Playing all her varsity volleyball at McMaster, Ellie Hatashita was named an OUA All-Star for the third time in her career. A constant presence at the net, the Kanata local was the team leader in blocks with 51 in total, ranking her 9th in the province. She averaged 0.72 blocks per set.
 
A fifth year Commerce student, Hatashita was a threat from the service line with 27 service aces in 19 matches played. She also contributed 1.30 kills per set for a total of 92 kills.
 
The 3x OUA All-Star will close out her Marauder career in Burridge at the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship from March 15-17.
