The Netherlands’ Joep Van Iersel has joined World ParaVolley and has been confirmed as the team leader of the Beach Rules of the Game Commission.
With unparalleled beach volleyball experience, Joep will further expand the depth of the Beach Rules of the Game Commission to benefit the organisation’s mission of developing the discipline.
“I had the opportunity to reflect on the position and I think that collaboration with Christian Battisti is a chance to help beach paravolley get to the highest level possible for the Paralympics in 2024, but realistically in LA2028,” Joep said.
Joep was a PT for 40 years who specialised in children and sports.
He was an international volleyball referee for 16 years and became a technical supervisor in volleyball and beach volleyball, where he was also a referee delegate.
He has been in the Rules of the Game Commission of the FIVB for beach volleyball from 2012-2016, and since 2006 he was competition director of all international beach volleyball events in the Netherlands, including the World Championships, which were held in four cities in 2015. He will also be the competition director in the current edition of the Invictus Games in The Hague for sitting volleyball.
He is married to Jopie and has two wonderful kids. His son, Rein, is a PT just like him, and his daughter Marleen, who played in two Olympic Games editions for beach volleyball and retired last August after 20 years of being at the top.
