Brock Sports named Ian Eibbitt as the interim head coach for its men’s volleyball program on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Eibbitt steps into the role with a seasoned background and a comprehensive coaching portfolio that spans over two decades.
“Ian emphasizes an authentic approach to his coaching philosophy, which is centred on fostering the student-athlete experience through inclusion and empowerment,” said Brock Sports and Recreation Executive Director Melissa Krist. “Eibbitt’s expertise isn’t confined solely to technical and tactical aspects but extends to mental performance training, a vital component in elite-level student-athletes.”
Eibbitt, who recently completed his sixth season with the McMaster University men’s volleyball program as the lead assistant coach, brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
He is currently the head coach of Team Ontario’s U18 men’s team for the 2025 Canada Games. Eibbitt’s tenure includes a notable stint as the interim head coach during the transition period between longtime coach Dave Preston’s retirement and the subsequent appointment of head coach Brad Douwes.
Eibbitt has played a significant role in Volleyball Canada’s pathway, having served in various coaching capacities with national teams, including the U19 Youth National Team, the National Excellence Program and the U21 Junior National Team.
A certified Performance Coach, Eibbitt served as the Lead Mentor Coach for the Team Ontario Red programs last summer. Recently appointed as the head coach for the 2025 Canada Summer Games team, Eibbitt also contributed to Ontario’s gold medal win at the 2017 Canada Games in Manitoba as part of the coaching staff.
