Huskies Pick Up Victory Over Wesmen

SASKATOON – The Huskie faithful were treated to an electrifying four-sets of Canada West volleyball action on Friday night at the PAC, as the Huskies prevailed over the Winnipeg Wesmen by a score of 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 26-24, 25-19).

A tightly contested first set saw Huskie standout Dylan Mortensen hit an impressive 10-for-11. Mortensen led the game with 27 kills, nearly double that of the next closest player – Winnipeg’s Daniel Thiessen (14). Mortensen ended up contributing 27.5 points on the night. The first set ended with the Huskies taking it 25-22 after a Mortensen kill.

The Wesmen replied in the second set, taking it 21-25 after a kill by St. Andrews, MB-native Nigel Nielsen.

From that point on it was all Huskies as they took the third set 26-24 and the fourth and final set by a score of 25-19.

After climbing back from a 9-12 deficit in the fourth set, the Huskies tied it at 12 before Levi Olson record two service aces in three plays. Olson recorded a game-high 4 aces – with his aces in the fourth set being pivotal in shifting the momentum in the Huskies favour.

The Huskies finished the game hitting .306 compared to the Wesmen’s .217.
