Cross Country Makes Season Debut at Dakota Classic | Live Results | Dakota Dunes
This Saturday at the Dakota Dunes Resort the Huksie Cross Country team will officially kick off the 2024 season with the second edition of the annual Dakota Classic. The Dakota Classic cross country race will take place on Saturday, September 38, at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation. Through the collaborative efforts between Huskie Athletics and Whitecap Dakota First Nation, it will mark just the second time a varsity race will be hosted in a First Nation community within Canada West, with the first being the inaugural edition of the event. Including athletes from the University of Saskatchewan, University of Manitoba, University of Regina, and University of Alberta, student-athletes will race where earth, sky, water, and air meet. The men and women each run an eight-kilometer race, which will wind through the traditional lands of the Whitecap Dakota through the trails surrounding the Dakota Dunes Golf Links. The event gets underway on Saturday morning, with the men’s race beginning at 11:00 AM and the women’s race scheduled for 12:00 PM. Awards and closing ceremonies will follow the end of the women’s race.

After suffering their third loss of the season, Huskie Football returns home ready to turn things around with a three-game home stand. The first of their three consecutive home games comes this Friday (Sept. 27) against the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked Alberta Golden Bears (2-2). The Dogs will be looking for some measure of revenge against the Bears this week after suffering three losses, including one in the Canada West semifinals, to their rivals from Edmonton in 2023. Alberta currently sits 2nd in the conference with a 2-0 record and is coming off a lopsided 30-6 win over the Regina Rams. Prior to their win over the Rams, the Bears had lost two straight to Calgary and Manitoba following a season-opening win over UBC. Kick off is set for 7 PM at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park.

Men’s & Women’s Soccer in Edmonton for Divisional Doubleheaders | CanadaWest.TV
After a tough weekend for Huskie teams on the soccer pitch, the USask men’s and women’s soccer teams will travel to Edmonton for crucial games against divisional opponents. For the Huskie women’s soccer team, they will take on the Alberta Pandas Saturday before facing off with the MacEwan Griffins Sunday. A pair of wins would go a long way for the Dogs as they currently find themselves tied with the Griffins for 2nd-place in the division and holding a one-point advantage over the Pandas. On the men’s side, the Huskies will take on the Golden Bears Saturday before heading to MacEwan Sunday. Finding themselves at the bottom of the division with a 2-7 record, the Huskies will be looking for poitns this weekend as they look to turn their season around and rejoin the playoff hunt.

Ron & Jane Graham Shootout Returns to Campus | Tickets
This weekend the Physical Activity Complex will once again serve as hosts of the annual Ron & Jane Graham Shootout. Over the course of the three-day tournament the Ron and Jane Graham Centre Court will feature six games with the Carleton Ravens, UBC Thunderbirds, and MacEwan Griffins set to compete with the Huskies. Thursday and Friday night will see games played at 5 PM & 7 PM followed by a pair of afternoon matchups at noon and 2 PM on Saturday. Tickets are required for entry for the first two days of the tournament, with the Saturday games available for viewing free of charge.

Men’s Volleyball Open Exhibition Schedule with Brandon Tournament
The Huskie men’s volleyball team kicks off their 2024-25 preseason schedule this weekend, taking part in the Brandon Bobcats preseason tournament. The Huskies will play matches against two opponents for the OUA in the Queen’s Gaels and Waterloo Warriors in addition to games against conference rivals in the Manitoba Bisons, Winnipeg Wesmen, and Brandon Bobcats. This will be the first of two preseason tournaments for the Dogs, who will also take part in the Mount Royal Cougars tournament in just a few weeks time. The Huskies kick off the 2024-25 regular season on November 1 when they host the MRU Cougars in a weekend doubleheader at the PAC. 

Women’s Volleyball Faces Off with Lakeland in Thunderchild First Nation
After taking part in the Manitoba/Brandon Preseason tournament last weekend, the Huskies will continue their preparation for the upcoming season with a non-conference game against the Lakeland Rusters. The two teams will travel to Thunderchild First Nation for their exhibition match which is set to take place at 4pm in the THunderchild Wellness Centre. Next up for the Huskie women’s volleyball team is another preseason tournament, this time hosted by the MacEwan Griffins. After competing in Edmonton, the Dogs will turn their attention to their season-opener on October 18 and the Regina Cougars. The Huskies and Cougars will face off in a home-and-home doubleheader Oct. 18 and 19 to kick off the latest campaign. 

Women’s Basketball Host Lakeland to Kick Off Preseason Schedule
The 2024 Canada West Champion, Huskie women’s basketball team hits the court for game action for the first time this Thursday (Sept. 27), hosting a non-conference game against the Lakeland Ruslters at the Ron & Jane Gymnasium. It’s the first of an extensive preseason for the national runner-ups, who will also host the Windsor Lancers and SAIT Trojans before competing in the Thunderbird Invitational (UBC) and Darcel Wright Memorial Classic (TMU) preseason tournaments. The Huskies officially begin their conference title defence on November 1 in Calgary, when they take on the Dinos in a season-opening doubleheader. 

Cold Lake to Host Alberta-Saskatchewan Rivalry in Pre-Season
With the Canada West hockey season just around the corner, Huskie men’s hockey heads to Cold Lake, Alberta for a pair exhibition games against a conference opponent. The Alberta Golden Bears await the Huskies in Cold Lake for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night as both teams prepare for their season-openers next week. Friday will be the first of eight meetings between the rivals this season, with the Huskies and Bears set to meet six times during the regular season. The Dogs drop the puck on the 2024-25 campaign Friday, October 4 at Merlis Belsher Place against the Regina Cougars. 

Huskies Look for Exhibition Revenge Against Dinos
The 10th Huskie Athletics program in action this weekend is the Huskie women’s hockey team, who will take on the Calgary Dinos Friday night in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. This is the final game in the Huskies preseason schedule, with the regular season set to begin next Friday (Oct. 4) against the Regina Cougars on the road.
