Huskie Hockey Set to Drop the Puck on 2024-25 Season
This weekend marks the official return of Canada West hockey, and more importantly, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie hockey teams to the ice. On Friday and Saturday night the Huskie men’s and women’s hockey teams will face off with the Regina Cougars to open the 2024-25 season, splitting games at home venues for a home-and-home series. The four games also mark the continuation of the U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk, which the University of Regina currently leads 2-0 thanks to an early season win by the Rams.
The Huskie men’s hockey team enters the regular season with plenty of optimism and excitement around this year’s team. The Dogs’ made some impressive additions to the roster, headlined by former Saskatoon Blades captain Trevor Wong, and are coming off a successful preseason campaign in which the team posted a 7-1 record. On the women’s side the Huskies enter the newest campaign with a strong mix of young talented student-athletes and experienced veteran players. While the Huskies posted a 2-4 record in the preseason, five were tightly contested one-goal games, which should make for some exciting hockey in 2024-25.

This Friday, October 4, the Huskie Football team’s impressive home field advantage will face it’s most difficult challenge yet when the undefeated U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Manitoba Bisons visit Griffiths. In two home games this season the Dogs’ have earned a pair of victories in thrilling fashion. First it was a 44-40 double-overtime homecoming win over the Calgary Dinos, and most recently, a 33-30 win against the Alberta Golden Bears which saw the Huskies erase a 30-14 deficit before a Lukas Scott game-winning field goal with 54 seconds remaining. With the conference-wide bye week coming up next week, followed by the final two games of the regular season, this remains a pivotal matchup for the Huskies.
Co-op Rally Alley also returns this week, open from 5:00-7:00 PM next to Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park. Fans will find BBQ, games, live music, and more! Additionally, the first 1,000 fans through the gates of Griffiths Stadium will receive a limited edition co-branded Huskies and Wireless Age tote bag!

Huskie Soccer Returns Home for ‘Around the World’ Doubleheader
On Saturday, Oct. 5, Griffiths Stadium will see both the men’s and women’s Huskie soccer teams take the field in the lone doubleheader this season. With the Saskatchewan men a few games back of the fourth and final playoff position in the Prairie Division, each game this season becomes crucial in the team’s efforts to return to the postseason. The Dogs will be looking for a convincing win on their home turf after earning a 1-0 road win against the Pronghorns earlier this season. On the women’s side the Huskies will face off with the division leader in the Calgary Dinos before hosting the Pronghorns on Sunday. Currently sitting in 4th-place with six games still to play, a win against the Dinos would go a long way if the Dogs hope to take the division in 2024.
