Huskie Basketball Heads on First and Only BC Road Trip
For the first and only time this season, the Huskies are headed to the province of British Columbia for a two-game road trip. The Dogs will take on the TRU Wolfpack in their final games before the Christmas break.
For the Huskie women’s basketball team, this weekend offers the chance to extend their winning streak to six games following recent sweeps of the Alberta Pandas and Manitoba Bisons. This weekend will also mark the first meeting between the Huskies and Wolfpack since the 2022-23 season, which saw the Dogs pick up a pair of dominant wins at home (90-43 & 84-31). Thompson Rivers has yet to earn a win in 2024-25, currently sitting at the bottom of the Canada West Pacific Division with an 0-8 record.
On the men’s side, Saskatchewan is looking to earn its first win of the campaign and is hoping a much-needed bye week can provide the momentum to do so. The Wolfpack have earned a record of 3-5 through the first four weeks of the season, suffering losses to UBC (twice), Trinity Western (twice), and splitting with Fraser Valley. In their meeting two years ago, Thompson Rivers earned a pair of narrow victories by a combined 12 points.

Men’s Hockey Hoping to Turn Alberta Win into Streak at Home
Following a strong weekend in Edmonton in which the Huskies split a weekend series, and U SPORTS Top 10 matchup, with the Alberta Golden Bears, the Dogs return to home ice to close out the Fall semester.
Saskatchewan is set to host the MacEwan Griffins in a two game weekend series at Merlis Belsher Place. The Griffins trail the Huskies by just four points in the Canada West East Division standings thanks to a record of 7-5-2 at the midway point of the season. Despite their position in the conference standings, MacEwan has just one win over an opponent with a winning record, a 5-1 victory against the UBC Thunderbirds in early November. Meanwhile the Huskies have dropped just four games, with three coming against the No. 6-ranked Golden Bears.
Following Saturday’s game at Merlis Belsher Place, fans will have the opportunity to take the ice with their favourite players as the Huskies host the first Post-Game Skate of the season.
Student-Athletes to Watch

Winless Women’s Hockey Heads to Edmonton for Date with Griffins
This weekend in Edmonton the Huskies will have their best chance to get into the win column as they take on the struggling MacEwan Griffins on the road.
In search of their first win, the Huskies will face off with the worst team in Canada West when it comes to goal differential. The Griffins, at -34, have scored fewer goals than the Huskies this season while allowing a conference-high 46 through 14 games. MacEwan is also one of the most penalty-prone teams in Western Canada, averaging 10 minutes in the box per game.
Saskatchewan is also coming off a strong performance in a losing effort to the No. 6-ranked Alberta Pandas and will look to carrying that momentum into Edmonton.
Student-Athletes to Watch
Colby Wilson – The arts & science student has made 25+ saves in six of nine starts this season while facing the second-most shots in the conference, showcasing her ability to routinely keep the Huskies in games with five being decided by a single with the Fort St. James, BC product between the pipes.

Huskie Volleyball Set to Close Out Fall Semester at Home
There are just three more home weekends remaining on the Huskie volleyball regular season schedule, and a series with the TRU Wolfpack this weekend will mark the final one of the Fall semester.
For the Huskie women’s volleyball team, this weekend will mark another test against a U SPORTS Top 10 opponent, with Thompson Rivers ranked No. 5 in the country in the latest polls. The Wolfpack boast a record of 6-2, with their only losses coming to the second-ranked Fraser Valley Cascades and sit fourth in conference standings. For the Huskies, the weekend offers a chance to bounce back after consecutive losses to the No. 9 Alberta Pandas two weeks ago. Going for Saskatchewan is an extended time to prepare for the upcoming matchup, as the Dogs received their bye just this past week.
On the men’s side, the No. 9-ranked Huskies will look to head into the winter break with a three-game winning streak after splitting a pair of five-set thrillers with the Manitoba Bisons this past weekend. The Dogs currently own a record of 4-4, having taken on some of the top teams in the conference to kick off the 2024-25 season. They will welcome a 2-6 Thompson Rivers team to the PAC who are coming off four consecutive losses and have dropped five of their last six.

Wrestling to Make Home Debut at Huskie Duals and Open
This weekend marks the first home events of the season for the Huskie wrestling team who will host the Huskie Duals on Friday followed by the Huskie Open on Saturday.
This year’s Duals will feature the first-ever non-Canada West opponent as the Saskatchewan men’s wrestling team takes on the Guelph Gryphons of the Ontario University Athletics conference. The Huskie men have had a strong start to the 2024-25 season, in their opening meet they captured 1st-place in Calgary at the Dinos Open before finishing 5th at the Simon Fraser Open. Then, south of the border, the Dogs saw Judah Arthurs and Wyatt Newsham earn podium positions at the Haws/Elton Rumble in St. Johns, Minnesota. Saskatchewan will take on a Guelph team which finished just one spot ahead of the Huskies at the 2024 U SPORTS Wrestling Championships with a four-point gap separating the two programs.
On the women’s side, the Huskies will host a familiar foe in the Calgary Dinos. Earlier this season at the Dinos’ home meet, the Huskies captured a 2nd-place finish thanks to a 12-point advantage over Calgary which saw all but one Saskatchewan student-athlete finish on the podium. A few weeks later the Huskies made a trip to Great Falls, Montana where they saw Caitlin Clatney and Olivia Rose reach the podium while Sierra Mullin finished fourth and Taebyn Tulp fifth. In the Calgary Dinos, the Huskies welcome the reigning Canada West champions, who earned a conference title on their home mats in 2024. At the national championships, the Dinos then finished three positions and 28 points ahead of the Dogs.
Following this weekend’s Huskie Duals and Open the Saskatchewan wrestling team will head to the winter break before continuing their regular season schedule. This year’s wrestling season will culminate back on the Dog’s home mats, with the 2024 Canada West Championships set to take place in Saskatoon on Saturday, February 15, 2024.
