Humber gets nod as CCAA Men’s Volleyball host

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship will return to Humber College in 2023.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the event in Etobicoke, ON, from March 8-11, 2023.

“Humber is one of the most outstanding CCAA and OCAA Championship hosts in the country year in and year out,” said Ray Sarkis, CCAA Men’s Volleyball Convenor. “Thanks to their staff and their incredible volunteers, they always provide the athletes, coaches and fans with a championship experience they will never forget.”

The tournament will feature eight teams from across Canada: conference champions from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), OCAA, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) as well as a wildcard team and the host Hawks.

All championship matches will be held at Humber’s quality athletic facilities inside the North Campus. The facility features a 20,000 square foot triple gymnasium with sprung wood floor.

The Hawks have hosted Nationals on 10 occasions, including the recently successful 2021 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship and 2022 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship.

Humber previously hosted CCAA Men’s Volleyball in 2008.

“Our vision for these championships will involve students from across a number of academic programs to deliver the best experience for all of the student-athletes and coaches,” said Ray Chateau, Tournament Chair and Director of Athletics at Humber. “You will find a number of new and exciting initiatives that will benefit both the participants and the local volleyball community and raise the profile of CCAA Men’s Volleyball.”

Humber’s Men’s Volleyball program has enjoyed recent success, capturing a silver medal at the CCAA Championship in 2020. The Hawks have earned three CCAA Men’s Volleyball medals, including gold in 2012. Humber has reached the OCAA podium on 15 occasions, including seven gold medals.

Humber College campuses are located on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and homeland of Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples.
