CALGARY – Hamish Hazelden’s outstanding season will continue on the international stage.
The recent University of Calgary Dinos graduate was one of 17 athletes named to the Men’s Volleyroos squad announced by Volleyball Australia. Hazelden will compete in the 2022 Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) campaign beginning on June 9.
The Esperance, Australia product had a truly dominant season in the Scarlett and Gold. He finished the regular season with double-digit kills in all but three matches on the year and his 268 total kills ranked third in all of U SPORTS. Hazelden also ranked third in the nation in points (305.5), sixth in hitting percentage (.351), seventh in total digs (123), ninth in kills per set (4.12) and was a big reason why the Dinos rank first in total blocks as a team with 193 on the year and 2.92 per set.
Hazelden was named a Canada West First Team All-Star and a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian – the first Dino to earn an All-Canadian nod since 2017.
It is the second consecutive year that Calgary will be represented on the Volleyrooss after Tim Taylor suited up for the national team last summer.
Two-time Olympian Jay Blankenau will once again represent Canada in the VNL. He was a member of the Dinos’ national championship in 2010 alongside Graham Vigrass, who recently retired.
