Hamilton’s MVC Everest wins 18U Canadian Women Volleyball Championships

Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) of Hamilton is very pleased to announce that MVC Everest has won the Canadian 18U Women’s National Championships defeating Burlington-based Halton Hurricanes 2-0 in the Gold medal game at the Olympic Oval in Calgary on May 20, 2023.  

MVC Everest went through the 3 day tournament with a 8-1 record with a playoff quarterfinal match with Ottawa Maverick.  After defeating Ottawa, MVC Everest played Calgary based Pandas in the semifinals battling to a 2-1 win to advance to the Gold medal game against Halton Hurricanes. This was the first national championship for MVC that has been developing young female athletes in Hamilton since 2009.

MVC Everest team consisted of Shelby O’Hanian, Claire Carter, Hope Simpson, Ada Nunn, Ava Connelly, Maya McNabney, Brianne Whalen and Mary Coll Andrikopoulos of Hamilton; Talia Nixon and Lauren MacPhail of St. Catherine’s and Ava Roodbal of Toronto. MVC Everest is coached by Karen Graham, Albie O’Hanian, David Lightfoot and Peter Wehmeyer, all of Hamilton.

Shelby O’Hanian and Talia Nixon were tournament All-stars, while Claire Carter was the MVP of the National Championship.

MVC Everest team have 8 members committed to post secondary education with volleyball athletic scholarships in Canada and the U.S.
