Davanté Hackett (Brampton, ON) of the men’s basketball team and Emily Foest (Fonthill, ON) of the women’s volleyball team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 1.

Hackett, a second-year guard, delivered a sensational performance against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Nov. 30 as the Brock men’s basketball team scored a season-high 91 points en route to their fourth consecutive victory. The Sport Management major notched a career-high 29 points off a 10-for-16 (62.5%) shooting performance from the field and a 5-for-9 (48.8%) showing from beyond the three-point line. He also was perfect from the charity stripe, going 4-for-4, and he added five rebounds, three steals and one assist in 29 minutes on the floor. Hackett helped the Badgers outscore the Lancers 27-15 in the second quarter as he had 10 points in the frame. Earlier in the week, he scored 11 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double as the Badgers defeated the Western Mustangs 76-75 on a last-second buzzer beater on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Currently, Hackett leads the Badgers with 13.7 points per game and is 26th in the province in that category.

Foest, a fourth-year outside hitter, helped the Brock women’s volleyball team head into the holiday break with a seven-game winning streak after a sweep of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Badgers had to fight back after going down 2-0 to pull off a reverse sweep of the host Gee-Gees. The Kinesiology major put up a team-high 18 points off 16 kills, one service and one block. In the pivotal fifth set, Foest helped score two of the final three Badgers’ points as they came back down 13-12 to win 15-13. After her fourth kill of the set made it 13-13, Foest went back to the service line and delivered a strong float serve that Ottawa could not pass up to seal the 15-13 fifth-set victory and the match. The night prior on Friday, Nov. 29, Foest had eight points, all off kills, to help the Badgers sweep the Gee-Gees. At the conclusion of the first half of the season, Foest is third in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference in total kills (133) and fifth in total points (150.5).
